Strange - the last time I had such a strong reaction to a concert was Ferron at Folk City in 1983. Seems like the real thing slips away so easily in our crazy world. I was a singer songwriter for many years, heart, body and soul, and eventually moved into writing because of how gut-wrenching it was to bare my soul so openly, so often. You, however dear fellow Irishman, shine your heart so brightly, openly and freely that it makes me feel like singing again. It was a gift and an honor to be there. And the venue! What heart, inspiration and pure soul I felt in that building. When Steve spoke, I again felt like weeping. There was magic in the air -- and that magic was as simple, loving and precious as the love I feel for my children. I'm doing great; it has made me look at life a little differently and definitely in a good way. We are anticipating the birth of our 2nd grandchild in September. All is definitely well. My daughter, Linda, and I were visiting for the first time. I mentioned that your song "Cold, Cold Ground," really touched my heart since my brother passed away earlier this year. I started a little song about my daughter and my visit to Kerrville. One part went, "John Smith sang of my brother, Put him down in that cold, cold ground. Me thinks I saw my brother, Somewhere in that rocking crowd." The festival has motivated me focus less on classical guitar and go back to the folk I used to play as a teenager.
